1st Quarter Academic Expectations:
- Your child should be able to
- Locate the front of the book
- Move finger left to right, pointing to each word, with the text
- Show the beginning and end of a sentence
- Produce rhyming words
- Recognize many upper and lower case letters
- Recognize at least 6 to 8 taught sight words, which include:a,the, and, go, here, had, I, he
- Count to at least 25
- Touch and count objects to 12
- Identify numerals 0-12
- Tell which has the most and least when looking at a graph
- Name the 4 seasons
- Name the 5 senses and body part used, for example: we use our nose to smell
2nd Quarter Academic Expectations
Your child should be able to…
- Meet all 1st Quarter Academic Expectations
- Recognize all upper and lowercase letters
- Produce many letter sounds
- Recognize at least 34 out of 42 taught sight words (please refer to the big 100 sight word list that was sent home at the beginning of school)
- Count to 50
- Recognize numerals 0-15
- Touch and count objects to 20
- Arrange items (towers) from shortest to tallest
- Compare numbers and tell which is more or less
- Model position words (on, under, in, above, next to, between)
- Understand the difference between needs and wants
